RAIN was founded in 1964 when Nurse Beatrice Castiglia-Catullo received her first contribution of $500 from her patient, RAIN’s Honorary President Monroe Lovinger. What began as a voluntary effort to provide in-home care for elder patients leaving the hospital with no one at home to care for them, has grown into a vast not-for-profit, multi-service organization that serves the needs of more than 30,000 seniors annually. On October 4th, 2007 RAIN will celebrate its forty-third anniversary of providing social, educational, recreational, housing and other services to the elderly at our Annual Dinner Dance. At this year’s Gala we continue our tradition of honoring
respected community and business leaders. Among the 2005 honorees are Kenneth R. Theobalds,
Director of Energy with the Monroe & Rose Lovinger Humanitarian Award, Honorable Michael
Benedetto, NY State Assembly Member for 82nd Assembly District and Honorable Naomi Rivera,
NY State Assembly Member for 80th Assembly District for their Public Service,
David Kotheimer, Regional President for Metropolitan NY, HSBC Bank USA for his Outstanding
Community Service and Jose Perez President of Mastermind as Businessman of the Year.
Past honorees include Mayor Rudolph Guliani, U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton, Former
Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión and
Congressman Joe Crowley.
