Friendly Visiting Program

Our Friendly Visiting Program pairs case management homebound older adults with volunteers for in-home visits.  During COVID-19 pandemic Volunteers connect with the older adults through telephone calls and virtual encounters. Volunteers visit on a weekly basis to talk about shared interests and experiences.  All volunteers will be screened and trained.

Social isolation is the state of having little to no contact between an individual and society. Social isolation is detrimental to wellbeing and may lead to health problems, including depression and heart disease. The COVID-19 pandemic places individuals at increased risk of becoming socially isolated.

The New York City Department for the Aging is working with its network of providers and City agencies to combat social isolation among older New Yorkers through multiple initiatives that include virtual programs, wellness check-in calls, the Friendly Visiting volunteer program, and a social isolation awareness campaign, which includes a radio PSA read by Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

If you or someone you know would like to make a difference in someone's life as a Friendly Visitor, please contact us at 347-745-8484; ext: 180.
